IMPOSTER CD Now Available!

At last! My new CD of original pop, synth pop, programmable pop, what have you, is now available! You can download mp3s andbuy the CD while it lasts on my CDBaby page, or you can order the usual iTunes version, too.

IMPOSTER is a fun, synthpop-driven album filled with angst and humor -- and hope, too.

This album has been a long time in the making, and there are so many people to thank. But I'd like to thank you most of all, for sticking around and showing all your love along the way, I very much appreciate it.

xoxo davidmahr

P.S. Here's the lyric video for IRRESISTIBLE - Enjoy!

Pre-Order IMPOSTER!

Great news! My first album in oh, I don't know, four years or so, is FINALLY available for pre-order on iTunes. There you can preview each track and reserve your copy of IMPOSTER today! There will also be a limited number of physical CDs for sale on my CDBaby page once the album is released (of course you want that too, right? ;)

Oh, and if you could please tell a friend, share and re-tweet, it would be so kind.

Cheers, and thank you!

A Big Thank you!

Thanks to all that came down on Sunday to support the fundraiser, it was a great event and a lot of fun! Many thanks to Shaun and DJ MarkMark for the invite. I also want to say thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes, it was a great day as well. Want to get me a present? How about pre-ordering IMPOSTER on iTunes? :) Seriously, though, thank you. :)

Upcoming Performance: 5-5-13 @ Truck

Hello! Much news to report, but the most important is that I'll be performing a couple of songs from the upcoming album IMPOSTER this Sunday, May 5th at Truck Bar in San Francisco. Here is the Facebook event page. It's for cause, supporting AIDS Walk/Lifecycle, and my friend DJ Mark Mark will be there as well as many other talented folks.  It's from 4-8pm, stop by and say hi if you can!

Here's a neat poster featuring the new album cover:

Thank you, a gig, and a lyric video

A great big thank you to all who came out to support the recent event at The Cinch Saloon in San Francisco! The GayPocket Guide cover model contestants were super-nice and lots of fun to dance with, too! :) Irresistible, in fact!

And speaking of which here's the brand-new lyric video for the lead track from the upcoming IMPOSTER album. Hope you like it!

P.S. I'll be performing IRRESISTIBLE for an AIDS Walk/Ride fundraiser at Truck on Sunday, May 5th - stop by and say hi if you can! Here's a link to the event page on Facebook.

IMPOSTER Track Listing

Here's my first real attempt at something using the Vine video app for Twitter. But you know I'm a control freak and Vine doesn't let you input audio or video, which I think makes the sound not as good. So naturally, I uploaded a higher quality version of the six-second track title reveal to YouTube for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Experimenting with CENTURY

I've worked on no less than three music video concepts for CENTURY, which I set aside for, oh I don't know, a couple of years.

I recently discovered this experiment that I'd completely forgotten about, one that used many takes and layers to create the effect I was going for. Not really dressed up for this one (it was an experiment after all), but I do think the effect nicely captures the divided mental state of the song's narrator.

Taken from the ONLY YOU EP, this song has always been a personal favorite.

I hope you like the video, and please share if you do!

Hey look! A DJ gig on April 21st!

Happy April everybody! Can't believe it's already been a year since the last one, but I'm happy to announce I'll be DJing and performing at the annual fundraising event for Theatre Rhino and the GayPocket cover model contest, which is being celebrated at The Cinch in San Francisco!

If you're in the area, please stop by and show your support -- I'll be spinning classic funk and maybe some 80s too, and I'll be performing a track from my new album IMPOSTER.

As always, thanks for your support, I appreciate it! And be sure to RSVP if your going to be there. :) Want to be a model? There's still time to sign up!

Video Distractions

Quick! Look over here! Now that the masters are done for the new album, art design and packaging is underway. I'm really excited to see how this all turns out, it'll be the first time that I've not designed the packaging myself. So, while we wait, I've uploaded music-only videos for all of my previous releases as well as some regular music videos to my YouTube page. Enjoy!

Mastering Underway!

Hello everyone! I'm very excited to announce that the tracks for the new album are finally complete! They have been sent off to be mastered and then I'll be figuring out the packaging and distribution plans...It's been a long time coming, but it's getting closer!

Happy 2013!

Just a quick note to say Happy New Year! 2012 was pretty good, but 2013 will be even better...

Irresistible: Notes from The Cinch Event

What fun! I was recently asked to DJ at a fundraising event for Theatre Rhino, who was partnering with the San Francisco Gay Pocket guide for their cover model search event at The Cinch in San Francisco (yes, it's, true, I'm a former cover model, too). After several delicious hours of classic synth pop, I climbed down from my booth in the ceiling to perform a new track called "Irresistible." What a blast. Auntie Drew and Laurie stayed up on stage with me, and it was quite a party!  Thanks to everyone who came to the event, it was a great success.

San Francisco Gig: April 29th

Happy April everybody! After a busy month of moving the studio, the house and all that goes inside, I'm back online and ready to update you on what's next.  So what is that?...

Flashback Friday: Days After Night

I can't believe we're already through the first album with these Flashback Friday blogs. Welcome back, I hope you've been enjoying the ride! Today's track is "Days After Night," the seventh and final song from the SOLITUDE EP. "Days After Night" was the first waltz song Spencer and I had written together, and I just love it, even today. The swing of the music fits very nicely with completely upbeat sun-shiny lyric that's filled with optimism and...no, wait -- I'm kidding...

Flashback Friday: A Song for Her

We're down to the second-to-last song from the SOLITUDE EP on this beautiful Flashback Friday in San Francisco, California. Today's song is "Song for Her." How did it come about? Well, there were a couple of things that heavily influenced my writing during this period - or was it several? ...

Flashback Friday: Love Like Ours

Welcome back to Flashback Friday! Next up, track five from the SOLITUDE EP, "Love Like Ours." This song is a particular favorite of Spencer's and mine because we actually used a piano! Settle down, settle down, I know it's shocking. But seriously, up until then we'd focused on using...

Flashback Friday: State of Mind

I recently discovered an app called Video Star. You might not already know this about me, but I love my iPhone and use it for everything - even recording vocals and synth bits for the new album. Anyway, I saw an article that talked about this app, and frankly, it's just a hoot to use. I'm used to the control of a more serious app like Final Cut Pro, and even though this app is extremely linear with only one level of undo on your takes, I found it to be fun and easy to use. More importantly, it gave me a challenge...

Synthpop Saturday: Free EP Download

I forgot to mention that Flashback Fridays also means FREE Fridays! If you haven't already, you can download the SOLITUDE EP for free on ...

Flashback Friday: Love So Cold

Lover from the deepest ocean...Welcome to the latest edition of Flashback Fridays, where we'll continue our journey from my very first song to my very latest -- one Friday at a time. This week: Love So Cold, which is track three on the the Solitude album.  The lyrics came first, as they often do. If you can imagine...

Flashback Friday: More Each Day

There's nothing like a good song with a beat you can dance to. More Each Day had it's origins in heartbreak, naturally. I was an angst-filled gay man who'd recently moved to The City to find my destiny and maybe, true love. This doesn't always work out in real-life, however. The reality was...

Buh-Bye, MySpace

Do you MySpace? It seems that, not only was I late to that party, but it had already left without me. Rather than stare around a big empty room wondering where my friends are, I've decided to leave the party and close my MYSPACE account. I'm hoping that...

Flashback Friday: Solitude

Turn the way-back machine to early 1995. I'd moved to San Francisco in 1991 and had been working on many musical projects with members from THE INNOCENTS (later, THE INNOSYNTHS), a side project called Clarke's Bell and even one with Eric Mars and SFoRcE called PINK PLANET...

What Were You Thinking on YouTube

Hey Kids! Just posted a music-only version of WHAT WERE YOU THINKING for all the YouTubers out there. Go to the...

Sunday Morning Chart News and a Free Download!

What a nice thing to wake up to on a Sunday morning. ELECTROPOP 2012, the FREE mp3 compilation album released just last week is sitting at #1 on the Amazon mp3 pop charts! Many thanks to Dave @ Ninthwave Records for inviting me to be part of such good company, too -- so excited to have my first new track out there in a while, especially one from the new upcoming album I'm putting the finishing touches on. Here's how you can help...

Off to a Good Start

Happy new year to you and yours. I think everyone gets excited (or is it apprehensive?) at the beginning of each year -- a time for opportunities, positive changes, finally getting to those things you want to do in life. I'm no different -- I always have lots and lots of plans. Happily, this is the year where you'll finally see some in action. Naturally I'll do the standard teaser and say "more coming soon," but here's what I know today. A track from my new album has been included in a electropop compilation at Amazon.com. Following that...

Snow-White Christmas

So here it is, December already. Another year flies by, and I realize that I've been tweeting and updating Facebook more than this blog! So here's what I've been up to: The new album (title to be announced soon!) is finally completed. I think it's the longest I've ever taken to write one, but I'm glad all the same and I can't wait to share it with you. More on that soon. Meanwhile, it's almost Christmas, and again, no holiday album to share. So how about a Christmas record instead?

davidmahr.com Relaunched!

Happy to report that the new davidmahr.com site has been launched. I'd like to especially thank HostBaby and the folks at bandcamp for their excellent tools and support. Take a click around and let me know what you think! Meanwhile, in studio news, I'm putting the final touches on the new album and have selected the first single, the name of which I'll be sharing very soon! Very excited to be at this stage, and hope that you'll stay tuned for more!  Cheers, as always, thanks.

DJ Gig Sunday May 1st @ 2pm

Howdy folks! It's that time of year again -- time for the annual GayPocket spring cover model search! The event will be held at Truck bar in San Francisco, and I'll be spinning the tunes (including a few songs from my upcoming album). Checking In

Happy New Year! Okay, I know it's February, and I've been radio silent for a while, but it's all for a good cause. I'm happy to report that my new album is finally written. And now? Production, production. Not sure how long that will take, but I'm gonna get this LP out there as as soon as I'm happy with it because I'm excited! In fact, just finished up a fantastic session today with one of the new tracks -- "Irresistible" -- that I can't wait to share.  Soon, I promise.  More soon, and thanks for your support as always. P.S. do you follow me on Facebook and Twitter yet? Say hi if you do!

Party for Equality This Saturday!

Just a quick reminder that I'll be DJing and singing some songs from my upcoming album at the Equality California "Party for Equality" this Saturday at 2:00pm in Berkeley, California. The amazing Ethel Merman and Swoon will also be performing, something I'm TOTALLY excited about!

If you haven't yet, please take a second to pre-register this week at http://www.eqca.org/party to reserve your spot.  I hope you can make it if you're in this neck of the woods, it's gonna be a great event!  And hey, if you can't make it, why not make a donation to EQCA directly? It's a great cause.  :)  Hope to see you all there, and thank you as always for your support.

Thank you Reno Pride!

What an adventure our trip to Reno was! The weather was fantastic and it was great to see friends and family too.  Circus Circus, the host hotel for Reno Pride 2010 was a fun place to stay (I won a stuffed hippo playing Chicken in a Pot!), and it was a pleasure to perform with ever-fabulous Ethel Merman and Katya Smirnoff-SkyyCheck out photos from the trip in the gallery, and ... THANK YOU RENO!  Psst! If you don't already, you can follow us on Twitter at @davidmahr, @theethelmerman and @katyasmirnoff.

Relentless, Prop 8 and Reno Pride

I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be on stage with ETHEL MERMAN and KATYA SMIRNOFF-SKYY at Reno Pride on Saturday, August 14th at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno.  I'll be djing tracks for them as well as debuting my brand-new song HEY HEY from my upcoming album as part of the set. C'mon down to the biggest little city in the world and get your pride on - you'll be glad...

DJ Gig @ ARTSHOW - Thank You!

A special thank you to all who came down to The Cat Club last night to support me and the ART SHOW event!  What an amazing night and such a great venue, too. There were art installations by featured artists Keith Gaspari and Paul Montwillo.  And the art wasn't just on the walls - we had DJs in the front and back of the house, mimes, a silver-bodied stiltwalker, a fireeater, a body painter and his, uh, canvas, fabulous food and more.

Around 7pm, I performed Century, the third track from my Only You CD, then had the pleasure of...

EQCA Event a Success - Thank You!

Thanks again, it's very much appreciated!

DJ Gig: In San Francisco on Saturday, April 24th?

Hi synthpopsters! If you're in San Francisco this Saturday, April 24th from 2-5pm, I'll be DJing at the GayPocket SF Party/Theatre Rhino fundraiser event at Truck bar, a cute little place at 15th and Folsom, south of Market Street. It'll be a packed afternoon of excellent synthpop, drinks/soda pop, tasty food (have you tried their Frickles? They're fabulous!) and good fun, all for a good cause. Oh, some cute cover models...

I'm Mr. Blue

My Yazoo cover of "Mr. Blue" seems to be getting downloads on iTunes all of a sudden! Very cool. Nobody's Diary was originally released in 2002 by Ninthwave Records, but I just noticed on iTunes that it's back and copyrighted by "Cool CDs" instead. What up? Meanwhile, give it a listen and review, lots of great covers on this one, including "Walk Away From Love" by Agency-X (credited here as Agency).

Supermodel! Work!

Okay, I'm not RuPaul, but I was very excited to find out I'm on the cover of the Spring 2010/Issue 38 edition of the Gay Pocket San Francisco guide!  Gay Pocket is a helpful guide for locals and visitors too, and helps you find the many supportive businesses around the entire city -- not just the Castro (although that's included too!).  If you're visiting San Francisco during the next couple of months, be sure to get your copy.  My twin sister says...

Happy New Year!

Just a short note to wish my family, friends and fans a happy 2010 and beyond.  2009 was a crazy year preceded by a crazy year, and I am very much looking forward to what the future may bring.  And the way it's looking, that includes a new EP, a remix CD and maybe that elusive holiday EP I promise myself every year that I'll do.  I guess we'll...

Relentless: The Masters

They’re here! They’re here! Creating a new record can often be a long, drawn-out process, and frankly, my new single "Relentless" has been no exception. Sometimes the full-time job — and, well, real life — can force your creative projects to backburner temporarily. Which is why, after months of making it happen, it feels so amazing when the masters for your new project arrive in the mail in a nice padded envelope. A huge thank you to Brian Hazard at Resonance Mastering for his amazing work!  Next up: getting the masters and artwork ready to send to the distributor so I can get this bad boy out the door!

DJ Gig @ Truck a Huge Success!

Thanks to all that came down to Truck on Sunday to support the Gay Pocket San Francisco cover model contest fundraising event! I really had a blast spinning a 2-hour set of 70s funk. The place was jammed and many great prizes were raffled off. My favorite Carol Channing look-a-like and hostess with the mostest Jordan L'Moore was there along with the cover content models. The Truck staff was awesome, and a lot of fun was had by all. Check out some of the photos!

Relentless: The Video

The music video from my upcoming single "Relentless" is now available in the Music section of davidmahr.com.  The song features backing vocals by The Innosynths. Meanwhile, the final line-up of mixes on the the new single is still being worked out, but there are some great ones that I'm very excited about, so stay tuned! I'd also love to hear what you think about the video - leave me a comment on my Facebook page.
